Pollen Street Social

Pollen Street Social was the perfect location for our quarterly girls lunch. 7 of us piled in off the street on a freezing cold Saturday to find the restaurant to be not only warm and welcoming but also buzzing with atmosphere. It is clear that Jason Atherton has succeeded at realising his ideal social space where people are welcomed with open arms to spend their day/evening.

The lunch special offered at Pollen Street Social is incredibly good value, at £29.50 for three courses (£26 for two). The crispy pork skin with apple sauce and olives with brandade that arrived at our table shortly after ordering were delicious little bits while we sipped champagne waiting for our entrees.

My pork belly with artichoke soup was the highlight. Visually striking, the flavour of the soup was robust, salty and yet smooth and sat perfectly on the tongue as it went down. The beef feather blade was as tender and moist as you would expect, however unfortunately the parsley and barley broth added more to the appearance than the taste.

The tropical panna cotta with pineapple snow for desert was light, creamy and fresh. Perhaps the least visually exciting dish of the day, it was the perfect end to a rich heavy lunch.

It's the extra mile Pollen Street Social takes, and the little extras between courses that makes your experience so pleasurable. You leave Pollen Street feeling satisfied and spoilt. Now, what girl wouldn't like that.
